Writer Energy Management Team
Subject Cheongju City Government is now accepting applications to get a briquette coupon that reflects the recent increase in briquette prices. The coupon is specially made for low-income families.

Mine Reclamation Corp. (MIRECO) leads the 2021 Low-Income Class Briquette Assistance Project (Briquette Voucher) to ease low classes’ heating cost burdens in winter and promote stable lives for the working classes. It is a practical energy welfare project of supporting increased cost-applied briquette coupons for better lives.

The application due date is July 30.

Applications can be submitted in person or through a family member (for the disabled or elderly) at a nearby administrative welfare center (eup/myeon/dong).

As of June 1, 2021, qualified applicants using briquette heating fuel are: ▲ beneficiaries (livelihood, household, medical, or education payments), ▲ lower-income families, ▲ the disadvantaged (single older households, ▲ persons with disabilities, ▲ single-parent family with 52% or less median income, and ▲ child breadwinners (foster care children) among others.

Basic living subsidy applicants/pending applicants are also welcome to apply for the briquette coupon.

However, beneficiaries of other energy vouchers (excluding summer-only energy voucher beneficiaries) or provided with briquette stove heating are not eligible to apply.

An official from the Cheongju City Government said, “We ask for your active participation in the briquette assistance project to help yourselves enjoy a nice, warm winter.”
