Cheongju, a city of culture, commences children's records project
- Cultural City Center and World Jikji Culture Association recruit participants for the one-child, one-book publication program -

On the 9th, Cheongju-si and the Cultural City Center of the Cheongju-si Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the Cultural City Center) commenced a new project together for the children who are the future of Cheongju-si, a city of culture. The city had successfully hosted its first event with the National Archives of Korea, celebrating the designation of “Records Day” as a legal holiday and solidifying the city’s status as a “city of archival culture and creativity.”
On the 23rd (Tues.), the Cultural City Center announced that it will be launching the “One-Child, One-Book Publication Program” in collaboration with World Jikji Culture Association. Application for the program will be open until July 3 (Friday).
This program is an extension of the “One-Person, One-Book Publication Program” that the city held targeting adults since 2007. The newly launching program is a picture-book-making program that is intended for local students from the first grade to the sixth grade.
In the “One-Child, One-Book Publication Program,” which will be held at B77 Gallery in Uncheon-dong, students will complete their books through two educational sessions. The first educational session, which will continue until mid-August, is going to focus on writing skills such as finding stories, gathering information, and creating characters. The second educational session, which will continue until early October, is going to focus on drawing such as planning paper materials and book size, transferring the story, sketching, and coloring.
The Jikji Culture Association will offer the rare opportunity to make books with their own hands for students who choose the “handmade book making process” in the last stage. The Jikji Culture Association explained that this will give children a chance to take a step closer to books.
The two-hour educational sessions will offer every week on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday for free. In order to comply with the quarantine guidelines for COVID-19, each class will be limited to 20 children.
In addition, as the classes are for children who are more vulnerable to diseases, quarantine guidelines such as wearing a mask and sitting apart will be strictly followed.
Park Sang-eon, the Secretary General of Cheongju Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation, said, “We expect that this program will be able to help the children who are the future of Cheongju, a city of archival culture and creativity, experience the culture of archiving and naturally learn its value,” as he requested public interest and participation in the program.
The Jikji Culture Association also said, “We hope the children will grow their creativity and expand their imagination through the picture-book-making activity and develop pride as citizens of Cheongju-si,” expecting positive support from the children.
Applications are being accepted online through the application link of the Cheongju Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation website (www.cjculture.org) and the World Jikji Association website (www.jikji.or.kr) until July 3 (Fri). Participating children must be able to attend the classes offered once a week.
