Cheongju-si resolves the digital divide through a smart village announcement system
Cheongju-si is going to invest KRW 600 million, an increase of KRW 260 million compared to last year’s investment, in the village announcement system improvement project, installing a wireless village broadcasting system that will cover 1,600 households in 23 villages. The conventional village announcement system was limited in that local residents had to stop farming or work, turn down their television sound, or open the window to listen to any village announcements due to noise from the airfield, remote locations, and the sound-proofing of houses, and so on. However, everyone can listen to village announcements easily if each household has an exclusive wireless receiver for village announcements. In addition, people can listen to past announcements that they missed using the replay function. Furthermore, people would no longer have to visit the local community halls to make an announcement. Villagers can use the wireless system like a smart phone to deliver all kinds of announcements quickly and accurately no matter where they are. In order to ensure the smooth operation of the project, the city is meticulously preparing for the project. It will select the project operator through a public contest in order to eliminate potential controversies and reduce the burden on the community. Using a public bidding system would prevent signing a contract with a company that has a history of poor construction, ensuring that local communities can access warranty services provided by a company officially registered as an information and communications business. There are various villages who wish to be part of the village announcement system improvement project.
