Subject Cheongju City Abound with Myriad of Athletic Events to Welcome Spring

- City to Hold Series of National-scale Competitions Such as the KSF President Flag National Shooting Competition -

In order to usher in the coming spring, Cheongju will be holding a myriad of national-scale athletic events.

First, sharpshooters from all over the nation will gather for the 35thKSF President Flag National Shooting Competition of the Korea Shooting Federation, which will be held at Cheongju Shooting Range over the course of 9 days from this coming April 19 to 27.

Following that, the 15thCheongwonOrganic Life Rice Flag National Men’s and Women’s Archery Competition will be held at Yaksujeong from April 29 to May 1 to answer the question of who deserves the title of Korea’s greatest archer.

In order to invigorate the culture of sports for all, the Jikji and Cheongwon Organic Life Rice Cup Sports for All National Tennis Tournament will be held at Ochang Public Tennis Court in late February, while the Jikji and Cheongwon Organic Life Rice Cup National Foot Volleyball Competition will be held at Gadeok Sports Park in April.

The city will also support the growth of sports for the disabled by holding the Jikji Cup National Wheelchair Fencing Championships in April and the Jikji Cup National Handicapped Lawn Bowls Competition and Jikji Cup National Para-Badminton Championships in May. All three competitions will be held at the Cheongju Sports Center for the Disabled.

The 2019 Korea Sports for All Festival, which serves as a grand festival for all members of the sports for all community, will be held in 11 cities and counties in the host region Chungcheongbuk-do, including Chungju, from April 25 to 28. Over 60,000 athletes, board members, and spectators from 17 cities and provinces around the nation will participate in the festival. Cheongju will also be taking part in the festival by holding events for 10 sports, including swimming, baseball, and basketball, in 15 of its stadiums.

Yun Sun-jin, the director of Cheongju City’s Sports Promotion and Education Support Division, stated, “We hope that local citizens will enthusiastically participate in these athletic activities to usher in a lively spring,” and added, “We will strive to revitalize the regional economy by actively promoting Cheongju through the attraction of various competitions so that the visiting contestants and their families will stay in the city longer, even if by just a day.”
