Cheongju City held the ‘Cheongju City Regional Coordination Committee for Countermeasures against School Violence’ in the small meeting room at City Hall on the 28th to discuss support measures for preventing school violence and bringing about mutual cooperation.

The Cheongju City Regional Coordination Committee for Countermeasures against School Violence was formed to discuss mutual cooperation and support measures on school violence prevention with each organization and group.

With Deputy Mayor Kim Hang-seop presiding, the meeting was attended by 13 representatives of organizations and groups dealing with school violence, such as the Chungcheongbuk-do Cheongju Office of Education and police stations, and the attendees discussed the severity of the rising social issue of school violence as well as solutions.

At the meeting, each organization gave a report on the results of their implemented projects, submitted matters for proposal to the committee, and engaged in discussions for measures that could actually help students in preventing and rooting out school violence, such as projects to carry out in 2019.

particular, measures such as real-time CCTV monitoring in school zones, joint regulation when patrolling dangerous areas during neighborhood inspection programs, support for active intervention regarding aggressors and victims of violence, and consultation and education for aggressors, victims, and their parents were all expected to greatly reduce and prevent school violence, and plans were made to implement them in 2019.

Deputy Mayor Kim Hang-seop stated, “In recent days, the flood of sensationalist and violent culture has led to aggressors taking up school violence at a younger age than before,” and called for the right for youths to be granted safe education, saying, “We cannot root out school violence alone, and must rely on synergy effects that occur when relevant organizations and groups work together.”

Cheongju City plans to actively work to prevent school violence by cooperating with each organization and group in the future as well.
