In accordance with the amended act on eco-friendly vehicles, Cheongju promoted and went through a guidance period on the prohibition of hindering charging activities, such as illegal parking, and announced that it will undertake intensive control of EV charging zones in administrative organizations and residential areas and impose administrative fines for violations starting in May.
Hindrance of charging activities include parking internal combustion engine vehicles in EV charging zones, stacking objects in or around charging zones or blocking access, continued parking for a set period of time after the vehicle had been fully charged (one hour for quick-charging, 14 hours for regular charging), and using charging facilities for purposes other than charging; violators will be subject to an administrative fine of KRW 100,000. Also, intentionally damaging charging facilities and line markings of charging zones are subject to an administrative fine of KRW 200,000. A city official said, “We will strive to settle a user-friendly EV charging culture along with the increased number of EVs on the road and citizens’ interest,” adding, “There has been increased reports on hindrance of charging activities in apartment complexes. We ask for your cooperation to avoid disadvantageous situations.” Meanwhile, targets for mandatory installation of EV charging facilities have been expanded to facilities with a total parking capacity of 50 vehicles or more. Accordingly, in new buildings, charging facilities must be installed by at least 5% of the respective parking capacity. As for existing buildings, charging facilities must be installed in public facilities and apartment housing by at least 2% of the total parking capacities by Jan. 27, 2024 and Jan. 27, 2025, respectively. |
