Title 24-hour real-time monitoring of frozen water meters
Writer Water Meter Management Team
Subject Cheongju City will operate a 24-hour real-time monitoring center for three months from December 2021 to late February 2022 to minimize the inconveniences caused by frozen water meters to the residents in winter.

The city will immediately dispatch manpower to the site upon receiving a report of frozen water meters in an attempt to minimize the inconvenience to the residents.

Alongside real-time monitoring, the city will also focus on facility inspections among areas prone to freezing and promote the prevention of frozen water meters by distributing promotional materials on newspapers, websites and city buses.

A spokesperson of the local Waterworks Headquarter advised to fill the gaps on the cover of the water meter box with unused clothes and remove stagnant water inside the water meter box with cloth while blocking air from outside with unused blankets to prevent frozen water meters.

In addition, the promotional materials suggest keeping the water tap slightly running if the house is left unattended for a long time and if sub-zero temperatures continue, as well as using a hair dryer or lukewarm water to thaw the frozen water meter.

The spokesperson said, “Check the conditions of your water meter in advance to prevent it from freezing when there’s a cold wave. If your water meter is frozen, call the real-time monitoring center (☎+82-43-252-5732).”
