Cheongju City joined a collective bicycle insurance in 2015 for all citizens to ride a bicycle more safely.
Anyone who lives and is a registered resident in Cheongju can receive the benefits from the insurance without having to go through a separate application process. The insurance offers coverage in addition to other insurance plans. The insurance benefits include up to KRW 25 million for death and disability caused by a bicycle accident, and a compensation benefit of KRW 200,000 for injuries that will take four weeks or more to heal. It also covers administrative fines, attorney fees, and traffic accident processing subsidy. Insurance claims must be filed to the representative insurance company, Dongbu Insurance, within three years (Contact: +82-2-475-8115). Through the city’s insurance plan, around 2,300 citizens received KRW 2.2 billion worth of insurance benefits from 2015 to March 2022. An official from the city government said, “In addition to the insurance plan, we will continue to create a better bicycle-riding environment so that Cheongju citizens can ride their bicycles with peace of mind.” |
