Cheongju Awarded Grand Prize in ‘2019 Be Happy Korea’
On June 6 at 11AM, Cheongju was honored with the Grand prize of '2019 Be Happy Korea' sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family at Seoul JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square. Chosun Ilbo's '2019 Be Happy Korea' was held for the second time for promotion nationwide after it was first held the previous year to select institutes, corporations and groups highly contributing to related fields for the improvement of the quality of life in the face of significant national current issues such as overcoming the low birth rate, child care issues, and the balance between work and family. This year, 11 institutes, corporations and groups (5 local governments, 5 corporations and groups and 1 individual for special achievement award), which contributed to the improvement of the quality of life as well as fostering the environment to raise children, were selected and Cheongju was awarded the grand prize for contribution to the population policy. Cheongju is taking a proactive approach to population problems such as the low birth rate for stably securing the population by implementing a customized population policy reflecting local characteristics such as marriage·pregnancy·birth·child care·education. Cheongju is establishing a family friendly network (UCC) to consider and find solutions with the local community for the improvement of awareness on marriage‧giving birth‧child care and spread of work‧family balance. The family friendly UCC network is currently cooperating with 51 institutes‧groups‧corporations to spread awareness on gender equality and to foster family friendly environments and is constantly planning to expand the number of participating institutions. In addition, Cheongju is establishing a thorough care system including the Altogether Care Center and local and child care support and expansion of national and public daycare centers. Cheongju has also been implementing a variety of programs to improve the settlement of avoiding marriage‧giving birth such as late marriage‧singlehood and improvement of stereotypes regarding gender roles. Cheongju is striving to improve awareness by operating a number of programs including 'Youth Camp for Single Men and Women' for natural youth encounters, 'Cheongju Dads Super Heros' for the spread of paternal child care, 'Couple Sympathy Communication Concert' to make healthy families with understanding between couples and 'Outreach Population Education' targeting many different age groups. Additionally, Cheongju expanded the standard of support to decrease the burden of families raising many children and foster happy environments for child care and is running family friendly programs to offer families with many children actual cultural benefits and contributing to the encouragement of childbirth and fostering a family friendly atmosphere by implementing camps for families with many children.
