In line with the plan to expand the eligibility age group for child benefit, Cheongju City increases the target from children under the age of 7 (0–83 months old) to children under the age of 8 (0–95 months old) starting this year.
Accordingly, child benefit of KRW 100,000 will also be provided to children born between February 2014 and March 2015 (under the age of 7 and 8), whose the benefit was suspended in 2021 as the children reached the age of 7. The benefit will be applied retroactively for eligible children from the monthly amount for January this year. The benefits will be paid out in April 2022 according to the turnaround time. Children who stopped receiving the benefit payment due to the suspension following their seventh birthdays do not need to apply separately as it is deemed that they have applied for the benefits according to the amended Child Benefits Act. However, if their guardians or payment accounts have been changed, an application must be filed including the change of payment account during the turnaround time at the community service centers of respective eup/myeon/dong offices in person. In addition, the retroactive application of child benefits from January is disabled after the application period for children born between February 2014 and March 2015. As these children can lose eligibility when they reach the age of 8, an application must be made during the specified period (from February 9 to March 31, 2022). The application can be made in person by visiting the community service centers of the respective eup/myeon/dong offices or on the “Bokjiro” website (www.bokjiro.go.kr). Only the parents can apply for child benefits online. Grandparents and heads of child welfare facilities, etc. must make the application in person. The child benefits system pays child benefit of KRW 100,000 a month to all children with Korean nationality under the age of 8 to reduce the economic burden of childrearing. The payment target has been continuously expanded since the system was implemented in September 2018, which initially included children under the age of 6. Cheongju City is actively advertising and accelerating the promotion of this project by sending letters with information since March 8 to approximately 9,400 children born between February 2014 and March 2015 (under the age of 7 and 8) to whom the benefit payment was suspended in 2021 as they reach the age of 7. ▶ Inquiry: Child-friendly Team, Childcare Division (☎ +82-43-201-1925) |
